Steps and Skips are such an important part of learning to read music that I made a category for them. This game can be played in many ways, with one student or a group. The simple way to play with one student is to hold up a card and the student moves a step or skip on the board. The objective of the game is to identify steps and skips quickly. The cards are posted below and also have directions for the game.

Young students learn better if they use the same version of the game. Older children like to change things around.
